Danos and Natrx Unite to Deliver Adaptive Infrastructure for Mississippi Living Shoreline

Danos and Natrx are creating a lasting impact on coastal resilience in Mississippi with their inaugural living shoreline project on the Pearl River. In partnership with Wildlife Mississippi and funding support from the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund, the project introduces nature-based solutions to strengthen shorelines, enhance river systems and promote habitat biodiversity.
“This project represents the kind of forward-thinking coastal solutions we aim to support,” said Ricky Flynt, director of Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund. “By using natural strategies to prevent shoreline erosion and promote long-term restoration, we’re setting a new standard for how Mississippi can protect and enhance our natural river systems.”
This shoreline installation features 119 ExoForms, which are modular, low-impact infrastructure units developed by Natrx and nicknamed “Cajun Coral.” ExoForms are tailored to the specific project using less material and minimizing ecological disruption. This makes them a cost-effective alternative to traditional rock structures. Together with long-term partner Danos, these two companies are establishing the Gulf Coast as the leading region for coastal innovation.
“Coastal Mississippi has always been a great neighbor to all of us in Louisiana, and we’re proud to bring our Louisiana-made ExoForms to the area, providing eco-friendly, meaningful resilience for communities and ecosystems,” said Leonard Nelson, CEO of Natrx. “The Logtown Living Shoreline marks a major milestone for Natrx as our first project in Mississippi – a testament to the power of collaboration in coastal restoration.”
Installed by Danos, the ExoForms are creating a "classic living shoreline" to trap silt and facilitate native vegetation growth, helping to strengthen the Pearl River shoreline.
“Collaborative projects like Logtown are so important to continuing our work in coastal restoration,” said Eric Danos, CEO of Danos Ventures. “Like so many others, we are proud to call the Gulf Coast home and are thankful for partners such as Wildlife Mississippi and Natrx for helping us bring cutting-edge restoration technology to Mississippi.”
The Logtown Living Shoreline Project further illustrates the power of cross-state environmental partnerships, showcasing the economic advantages from deploying Louisiana-made coastal technologies throughout the Gulf States region.
“This project is a powerful example of what can be achieved when states work together to protect and restore our shared coastal resources,” said Robert Smith, coastal program coordinator for Wildlife Mississippi. “By incorporating Louisiana-made technologies into Mississippi’s conservation efforts, we’re not only enhancing habitat and shoreline resilience, but also demonstrating the economic and ecological value of regional collaboration.”
The collaborative effort to improve coastal stability in southern Mississippi reflects Natrx and Danos’ ongoing commitment to delivering innovative, nature-based solutions to communities throughout the Gulf Coast.
