Watch Card - SWA

Lead Operator Tommy LeCompte for his use of stop work authority to shut down a potentially dangerous situation.

On the job site, Tommy noticed that two construction hands did not have eye protection or hardhats on while they were on board installing a scrubber and valves on a second stage. They also were using a chain fall (a hoist used to lift heavy objects) to split two lines apart and to install the valves.

Two workers were standing in the line of fire. This was a major hazard because the chain could have broken or slipped on the piping. Tommy stopped the job and met with the construction foreman and workers.

Be your brother’s keeper.

With an abundance of workers who are new to the industry, the use of stop work authority is an important component of a proactive safety program. Everyone needs to be on the lookout for those who are less experienced and mentor by teaching them why stop work was used and the proper way to perform the task.  Mentoring is just one of the many ways Danos develops great people!
